An "only in New Orleans" landmark, Schiro's has been the center of neighborhood activity for over 100 years. It began as a corner grocery, a fixture in New Orleans neighborhoods from a time gone by. In true turn-of-the-century fashion, the owners lived upstairs. Schiro's Balcony Guest House occupies this space now.

Whether your itinerary includes a day of sightseeing, antiques shopping and dining in the historic French Quarter or a night of listening to the best sounds of New Orleans on Frenchmen Street, Schiro's Balcony Guest House is perfect for a relaxing retreat. City Park (third largest urban park in the U.S.) is also nearby and houses NOMA (New Orleans Museum of Art), tennis courts, botanical gardens, and four golf courses, as well as being a wonderful area to ride bikes and view the huge historic and documented oak trees. Bikes can be rented on Frenchmen Street, at Bicycle Michael's--5 blocks from Schiro's. The ride up Esplanade Avenue to the park is pleasant, and bikes are available for rent near the park as well. The Fairgrounds are also near the City Park end of Esplanade. This is the site for the New Orleans Jazz Fest every year, on the last weekend of April and first weekend of May.

Schiro's Community Café...
Schiro's Community Café, within the grocery, is a popular gathering place for our own new Orleans' blend of artists, musicians, and let's just say "personalties". Open for Lunch and Dinner, the café offers good basic New Orleans food:
Po-Boys, Seafood, Pasta, and Vegetarian, as well as "knock your socks off" cocktails. <back
